Fortnight-long 47th Kolkata International Book Fair from Jan 18

Jamshedpur, Jan 12: The fortnight-long 47^th Kolkata International Book Fair will be organized at the Central Park Mela Ground at Salt Lake between January 18 and 31. Acknowledged as a festive occasion in Kolkata, visitors not only from this megapolis but also from very far and near make it a point to mark their footprints on the fair grounds and thumb through uncountable arrays of books and magazines and carry home some of the rarest, latest but precious and finest collections at prices not expected to burn holes in pockets depending on the monetary capacity and the choice of books by booklovers.

The theme for the 2024 edition of the Kolkata International Book Fair is ‘The United Kingdom.’ The invited publishers who will feature in this year’s Fair will include those from the US, France, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Bangladesh, Australia, Peru, Argentina, Colombia among others.

Tridib Chatterjee of the organizers, Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, informed, “As compared to the 2023 edition of the Kolkata International Book Fair in which there were 950 participating publishers, 2024 will feature 1,025 publication houses including popular national and international ones like Oxford University Press, Rupa, Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Hachette, Bloomsbury and Pan Macmillan. There will be many new participants housed in smaller booths.”

According to available statistics, the footfall numbers at the 46^thInternational Book fair, Kolkata exceeded 26 lakh with sales figure spilling beyond Rs 25 crore. With a newer mix of new and veteran publications, works by veteran and emerging authors, newer and varied choices of books, magazines and subjects, the excitement that surrounds the Kolkata international Book Fair is expected to climb higher towards a sensational crescendo.
