Jamshedpur, Mar 6: Police have arrested Rahul Tiwari alias Rahul Parikh, a former employee, for threatening to blow up the business of Dilip Goyal, a well-known businessman from Bistupur CH Area. The arrest took place within 24 hours of the complaint being lodged.
Speaking on the matter, SSP Kishore Kaushal stated that Rahul, a resident of Jugsalai Purani Basti, had called the businessman a few days ago and issued the threat over a WhatsApp call. When Goyal tried to inquire further, the accused abruptly disconnected the call. Concerned for his safety, the businessman immediately reported the matter to Bistupur police.
The police quickly traced the phone number used for the call and identified Rahul as the suspect. It was revealed that he had borrowed a phone from a laborer working at a goldsmith’s shop, made the call and later deleted the number from the device to cover his tracks.
Police arrested Rahul and have sent him to judicial custody. According to sources, the threatening call lasted for 21 seconds and was made from an unknown number at approximately 9:30 PM on Tuesday night. The incident caused panic among the businessman and his family, prompting authorities to step up security measures.
Jamshedpur business community concerned
Dilip Goyal, who is the director of ASL Motors, has business operations in Adityapur and Gamharia. His threat has raised concerns among the local business community, as such incidents have occurred in the past.
History of extortion threats in Jamshedpur
This is not the first case of businessmen receiving threats in Jamshedpur. In previous years, demands for extortion were made in the name of Sonu Singh (linked to the Upendra Singh murder case) and notorious gangster Akhilesh Singh.
In 2008, the MMG Group had extorted money from several city businessmen, including Sreeleathers owner Ashish Dey, by threatening bomb attacks. Gang leader Shivaji Rai, a resident of Baridih, used letters and cyber cafés for extortion demands before being arrested by the police.
Authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety of businessmen in the city.
