Former BJP MLA Gurcharan Nayak escapes Maoist attack in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum, two bodyguards killed

Chaibasa, January 4: Suspected Maoists attacked former Manoharpur BJP MLA Gurcharan Nayak, in Jheelruwan of Goilkera police station area of West Singhbhum district on Tuesday evening.

The former MLA managed to save his life narrowly in the attack.

As soon as the Naxalites attacked, the former MLA along with a bodyguard somehow managed to leave the spot. After reaching Sonua police station, he gave complete information to the police. The former MLA was accompanied by three bodyguards when the Naxalites attacked.

At the same time, two bodyguards have been caught by the Maoists.

In the evening, police sources informed that both the body guards had been killed by the Maoists but the police are yet to reach the site, as it is situated in dense forest area.

It is feared that the Naxalites may have looted the weapon from the bodyguard.

Gurucharan Nayak had gone to attend a function of a football tournament. Naxalites were already informed about this and attacked on the former MLA as soon as he came out of the crowd.

It is known that even before this, during his tenure as MLA, Gurcharan had survived the attack of Naxalites. Gurucharan, who had gone to inaugurate a school building and lay the foundation stone of a road in Anandpur block of West Singhbhum district, was attacked twice within an hour. The Naxalites had fired for about one and a half hours with the police accompanying the MLA.

The first incident of attack took place in Naxal-hit Harta village of Anandpur block. For the second time, the Naxalites attacked in Khatangbera village. Gurucharan Nayak was giving a speech after inaugurating the school building in Harta village and distributing prizes to the children when suddenly the sound of firing was heard from the nearby forest. On hearing the firing sound Gurucharan sensing danger closed his speech and left for Khatangbera village on foot along with the security personnel.
