Forest dept gives Rs 2.25 lakh in compensation

Jamshedpur: Forest department officials of Jamshedpur gave a cheque of Rs 2.25 lakh to Raja Ram Bankira, the husband of late Jeba Bankira, a victim of tusker violence and a resident of Bagbera, as compensation on Tuesday.

They handed the cheque to Raja Ram in Somai Jhopri locality of Bagbera police station area. Jeba was trampled to death by a wild elephant, who had gone berserk on 16th June last. The forest department had given an ex gratia amount of Rs 25,000 to Raja Ram after the incident.

Later, the forest officials completed the formality and gave the compensation amount to Raja Ram as per the government rules. Forest officials said the tusker had strayed into residential area and killed the woman.
