Folk artists of Kolhan to participate in the 31st Surajkund Mela

Jamshedpur: Distinguished folk artists of Kolhan will be showcasing their talent during a slew of cultural events going to be organized during the famous Surajkund Mela in Haryana.

Jharkhand has been selected as the theme state for the renowned fair which will be organized in Faridabad from 1st February to 15th February.

In view of the forthcoming event, the Culture Directorate of Jharkhand government organized a host of competitive events to select outstanding cultural artists for participation in the fair. The competitions were held in Dumka, Hazaribagh and Jamshedpur. In city, the events were organized at Town Hall, Sidhgora.

A total of 11 cultural groups participated in the competition held for the artists of Kolhan. The event was presided over by the district public relations officer Sanjay Kumar.

The participants performed to showcase their dancing skills in three main styles of Chhau dance which included Manbhum style, Kharsawan style and Seraikela style. They also performed Adivasi Jhinga dance.

The convenor of the event was Tapan Kumar Patnaik while the judge was Amitabh Kumar, deputy director of the Culture Directorate.

Owing to the absence of folk singers and Firkal dancers, it was decided to give time to the artists till Thursday for performing at the DPRO office by 1 pm.

Today�s participating groups included Ranjha Adivasi Dance Group from Rani Kudar, Giridhar Kala Kendra, Chunchurria, Bhavesh Chhau Dance Group from Kharsawan, Adivasi Kurmi Chhau Dance Group, Kala Vikas Kendra and Government Chhau Nritya Kala Kendra from Kharsawan.
