Jamshedpur: The MP of Jamshedpur Vidyut Varan Mahato today said that the proposed construction of an airport in Kandra (Seraikela-Kharsawan) has hit a roadblock leading to scrapping of the project due to non-availability of suitable land.

Speaking to scribes at Chamber Bhavan, Bistupur, on Sunday, the MP said the Central and state governments are now considering other options to provide air connectivity to Jamshedpur so that Chaibasa and Chakradharpur (Kolhan) as well as Odisha and West Bengal could also get air connectivity. He said the Union Aviation Minister had sought a report from the department in this connection.

“Flight services for Kolkata and New Delhi are soon going to start from Jamshedpur. Tata Steel has given its consent in this regard. The Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha is also serious about the demand raised by the people of Jamshedpur,” said Mahato.

The MP expressed hope that the proposed airport could be built either in Chakulia or in Dhalbhumgarh. He said that talks were held with the DC of East Singhbhum for construction of an airport in Dhalbhumgarh. The government has also sought a report on proposing an airport in Chakulia, he said.

Speaking on the issue of restarting mines in the district, Mahato said the move would create employment opportunities. “The Central government is working to restart the HCL and UCIL mines.

All mines will be given on a lease of 50 years. Nuclear Department has finished survey. Work will soon start in Mosabani, Ghatsila, Rakha Mines, Kendadih and Jadugora mines. The nuclear department is showing interest after new blocks have been found near Jadugora,” he said.

Also present on the occasion, district BJP president Dinesh Kumar said the Shalimar-Jaipur Summer Special train will arrive at Tatanagar railway station Monday midnight while Jaipur-Shalimar train will arrive here at 7 pm on Thursday.

The MP said that South Eastern Railway Zone authorities were also considering the demands for extending Tata-Patna train service till Buxar and starting Tata-Bhagalpur Express and Tata-Jainagar Express train.
