Five Jharkhand players in Indian Archery Team for Shanghai World Cup, Jamshedpur’s Purnima Mahato appointed coach

Jamshedpur, April 24: As the Archery World Cup Stage-1 commences in Shanghai from April 23-28, the Indian team has been finalized, boasting an impressive representation from Jharkhand. Five talented players from the state have clinched their spots in the prestigious competition.

Leading the charge in the Indian recurve women’s team are four remarkable archers from Tata Archery Academy and Jharkhand’s own veteran, Deepika Kumari. The squad comprises Ankita Bhakat, Komolika Bari, Bhajan Kaur, and the seasoned Deepika Kumari. Additionally, Mrinal Chauhan from Tata Archery Academy has earned his place in the men’s team, showcasing the state’s prowess in the sport.

Adding to the pride of Jharkhand, Purnima Mahato of Jamshedpur has been appointed as the coach of the women’s team. Purnima Mahato recently received the prestigious Padma Shri award at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on April 22. Immediately after the ceremony, she embarked on her journey to Shanghai, driven by her commitment to the sport.

Expressing optimism for the upcoming competitions, Purnima Mahato emphasized the significance of the year for archery, highlighting the World Cup and the Paris Olympic Qualifiers. She expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness and hoped for stellar performances from the Indian archers.
