Jamshedpur, Nov 3: A major road accident on National Highway-33 near Hamid village under Chandil police station area left five people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, seriously injured on Monday morning around 10.30 a.m. The injured were rushed to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur with the help of local police, where they are undergoing treatment. According to sources, the victims were travelling in an auto-rickshaw from Mango’s Chepapul area towards Chandil. They were reportedly on their way to Balrampur and planned to change vehicles at Chandil.

However, a speeding Hyva truck (registration number could not  be identified) coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the auto.  The impact was so severe that the vehicle overturned, injuring all passengers on board. The injured have been identified as auto driver Jaleem Ansari of Kapali Tajnagar, Jareen Khatoon, Aisa Parveen of Bagan Sai Road No. 7, Mantu Gorai, and Budhram Majhi.

Local residents immediately reached the spot, rescued the victims, and informed the police.

Eyewitnesses said the Hyva driver was in a drunken state at the time of the accident.

Angry locals caught hold of the driver and handed him over to the police. The Chandil police have seized the vehicle and taken the driver into custody for further investigation. Residents blamed the rising number of speeding vehicles and lack of police patrolling on NH-33 for the frequent accidents in the area. Police officials assured that traffic surveillance and patrolling will be intensified to prevent such mishaps in future.
