Jamshedpur, June 21 : Well-known personalities like Saryu Roy, food and civil supplies minister, Jharkhand, Bidyut Baran Mahto, MP, Jamshedpur, Amit Kumar, deputy commissioner, East Singhbhum, and others participated in a Yoga session at Gopal Maidan, Bistupur.
“I am happy to be here. Practicing yoga together in a nice ambience in itself is joy. Yoga has received international recognition but we should ensure that we practice it everyday because it not only enhances your health but also your mind and soul,” said Roy.
Senior SP of East Singhbhum Anoop Birthray and East Singhbhum civil surgeon Maheshwar Prasad, officials of various notified area committees, members of civil defence and Jamshedpur chapter’s Indian Red Cross Society and school children also participated in it.
It was organised East Singhbhum district administration and conducted by Patanjali Yogpith, Jamshedpur branch. Over 1000 fitness enthusiasts participated in it.
The fourth edition of the International Yoga Day showed overwhelming response which was evident with rise in number of participants at almost all locations which witness yoga asanas today.
Tata Steel Sports department too organised a session. Those who were present: Sunil Bhaskaran, vice-president, corporate services, “It’s not about a single day but must be practised every day for a better living,” said Sunil Bhaskaran who practised yoga along with other officials of the sports department.
21 June was declared as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 2014. The declaration came after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on 27 September 2014. This initiative found support from many global leaders from more than 177 countries co-sponsoring the resolution.
