For these young adults, stepping into polling stations to press the button on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) symbolized an empowering first experience in democracy.

The assembly elections witnessed an enthusiastic surge of first-time voters, with many young adults excitedly casting their ballots for the first time. Across the city, students eagerly participated in the democratic process some even postponing their summer vacations to ensure they could vote.

The occasion was filled with enthusiasm and pride, marked an important milestone in their civic lives as they stepped into polling stations to engage in the democratic process.

“My friends and I were thrilled to participate in the elections,” said Shweta, a Mass Communication student from a private college.

Along with her friends Rahul and Supriya, she attentively observed the election procedures and eagerly awaited their turn to vote. Students in Kukatpally were equally excited, with many commenting that they had counted down the days until election day. “We couldn’t wait to cast our vote,” said a B-tech student who added that the experience felt like a significant rite of passage. Many young voters took selfies with their ink-marked fingers to commemorate the occasion.

In the weeks leading up to the elections, these young voters had engaged in lively discussions, researched candidates and debated campaign promises in various WhatsApp groups. Their enthusiasm was evident, as they encouraged their peers to vote and made sure everyone understood the importance of their voices in shaping the future of the country.
