Jamshedpur: A major fire was pre-empted on Monday when flames engulfed an oil tanker and several drums containing flammable substances in Lal Baba Foundry area of Burmamines.
Sources said the fire broke out in the morning. First, the fire started in a drum kept in the Foundry area and later spread to 10 more drums and an oil tanker present nearby.
Showing presence of mind, a team of fire tender staff doused the fire from all sides in a bid to stop its further spread.
Police said a probe was on to find the source of fire. They said the mishap could be disastrous as a large number of residential houses are situated near the place of occurrence.
