Jamshedpur: A major fire mishap was averted late last night when a store
caught fire at Sakchi market. The incident took place at Hi-Society. The
shop-keepers informed that as the fire at the Hi- Society building was caught
fire at the roof-top. Soon after fire-brigades succeeded to enter into the
marketplace.
According to sources, some hotel boys who used to roam about in the marketplace
in late in the night had spotted smoke and sounded an alert. Within
10 minutes two fire-tenders, one from the Tata Steel and other from the
Golmuri-based Jharkhand Fire Station had arrived at the spot.
The Jharkhand fire-station official said as per their
information the fire caught the scrap cartons from a fire
work which came and fell on them. There is a cloth odown next to the
scrap cartons, but we succeeded to douse the flame before it reached upto
it.”
He observed that they did not find any obstacle in reaching to the spot as
the marketplace as it was approaching midnight and the marketplace was
deserted, but he pointed out that they would have face problems in reaching at
the spot had the fire incident been during the daytime.
A senior official of the administration said that most high- rise residential and commercial buildings in the city are extremely vulnerable to fire of fire protection and extinguishing systems. Jugsalai, Sakchi, Mango, Pursuih and Baghbera stills lack fire safety facilities.
