FIR against five for Panchayat poll related offence in Chaibasa

Chaibasa, May 28: Five persons including two Mukhiya candidates were arrested by West Singhbhum police here on Saturday for allegedly snatching the ballot box from polling duty staff and security personnel and pouring water into several of them on the day of Panchayat polls.

Those arrested were identified as Budhram Hembram (Mukhiya candidate), Jainendra Hembram, Turam Pingua, Samir Tiriya (Mukhiya candidate) and Nandlal Tiriya.

According to police, the accused persons had forcibly barged into polling booth number 100 at Upgraded Primary school, Purtisai in Sector 15 of Majhgaon block during the last and fourth phase of Panchayat polls on 27th May last. The accused persons snatched the ballot boxes from the hands of the polling duty staff and poured water into them. Both Mukhiya candidates had reportedly asked and provoked their supporters to commit the said election related offence, police said.

Acting on the instructions of SP West Singhbhum, police arrested the accused persons and sent them to judicial custody.
