CM claims tribal population neglected in Union Budget

Ranchi, February 2: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren criticized the BJP-led central government for neglecting Jharkhand and its tribal population in the Union Budget, despite the state’s significant contribution to the country’s exchequer through its mineral resources.

Speaking in Chaibasa, Soren affirmed his commitment to securing Jharkhand’s rights and announced new projects worth over Rs 412 crore for the region.

Criticising the BJP-led government at the Centre, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday said Jharkhand contributes signicantly to the country’s exchequer with its mineral resources, but there was nothing for the state and its tribal population in the Union Budget. Addressing a function in Chaibasa, Soren said he would continue the ght to secure Jharkhand’s rights.

“Jharkhand contributes signicantly to the country’s exchequer with its mineral resources. But, there is nothing for the state in the Budget. Nothing is there for our tribal people,” he said.

At the function, the CM laid the foundation stones for 178 projects worth Rs 315.28 crore, and inaugurated 68 projects worth Rs 96.97 crore.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren participated in the Shaheed Diwas celebrations at Serengasia in Tonto block of West Singhbhum. The ceremony was organized to remember the heroes of the 1837 rebellion against the British. Soren inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 246 development schemes there. Also, assets were distributed to the beneficiaries of several welfare schemes.

The Chief Minister paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1837 rebellion. This rebellion was fought against the British rule.

In all 246 development projects were started in this program organized at Serengasia. These include the inauguration of new schemes and the foundation stone laying of some. Apart from this, assets were given to the people who took advantage of various welfare schemes of the government. This Shaheed Diwas celebration was very important for the local people.

Soren further said that it was due to the martyrs that “we have succeeded in getting a separate Jharkhand. We have fought to get Jharkhand and another battle for our rights is still going on.”

He said that the tribal society gets the strength to fight for its rights from their ancestors. He said that despite having abundant resources and mineral wealth, our Jharkhand is in the list of the most backward states of the country. This situation has to be changed.
