Jamshedpur: The Diamond Jubilee marking 60 years of Father CR Prabhu’s priesthood was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the St. Joseph’s Hospital Chapel in Bhilai Pahari. The occasion was marked by a solemn Holy Mass led by Bishop Telesphore Bilung of the Jamshedpur Diocese, alongside Retired Archbishop Felix Toppo of Ranchi, Retired Archbishop William D’Souza of Patna, Provincial Jerry Coutinho, American priest Father Cyril Fernandes, and Vicar General Father Alwyn.
The celebration included a ceremonial candle-lighting to mark six decades of service, followed by cultural programmes and a cake-cutting ceremony.
Tributes from Religious Leaders:
- Archbishop Felix Toppo: Recalling years of shared experiences, he remarked that Father Prabhu possesses a heart as pure and holy as a child’s, yet his work reflects immense maturity. He credited the blessings of the Gospel for Father Prabhu’s tireless dedication to the spiritual and economic upliftment of the people.
- Archbishop William D’Souza: He noted that Father Prabhu arrived in Jharkhand from Mangalore 52 years ago, following a divine calling. Since then, he has dedicated his life to the educational and economic advancement of tribal and underprivileged communities.
- Bishop Telesphore Bilung: He expressed deep appreciation for Father Prabhu’s continuous contributions to the diocese since 1964.
- Father Cyril Fernandes: He described Father Prabhu as a true follower of Jesus Christ, stating that he has lived like a candle, burning himself to illuminate the lives of others.
A Legacy of Firsts: Father CR Prabhu holds the distinction of being the first Indian priest of the Jamshedpur Diocese. Over his illustrious career, he has served as Rector, Vicar General, Spiritual Guide, and Principal. Currently residing at St. Joseph’s Hospital for the past 1.5 years due to health reasons, he remains active by writing books. He credits his spiritual and social achievements to his parents and God. He is also recognized for inspiring and guiding the rural youth of Jharkhand to form NGOs for social and skill development.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Father Vinod Fernandes, Principal of Loyola School, with a large number of priests, nuns, and well-wishers in attendance to pray for his health.
