Jamshedpur: As the counting day for Jharkhand Assembly elections approaches on Saturday, November 23, the fate of 1211 candidates vying for 81 assembly seats will be revealed. Among them are four former police officers who have transitioned to politics, hoping to secure their place in the state legislature.
The list includes former IPS officers Dr. Ajoy Kumar, contesting from East Jamshedpur; Rameshwar Oraon, vying for the Lohardaga seat; Arun Oraon, contesting from Sisai and former DSP Navneet Hembram, competing from the Maheshpur constituency.
The track record of former police officers in Jharkhand politics has been mixed. While some, like Rameshwar Oraon, BD Ram, and Dr. Ajoy Kumar, have successfully made their mark, many others have struggled. Notable figures such as DK Pandey, Rezi Dungdung, Laxman Prasad Singh, late Amitabh Choudhary, and Arun Oraon have faced challenges in securing electoral success, often failing to receive party tickets or being rejected by voters.
This election serves as a critical test for these former officers, as they attempt to translate their service in law enforcement to political leadership. The public’s decision, set to be announced on Saturday, will determine whether these candidates can overcome the historical odds and establish themselves in Jharkhand’s political landscape.
