Farmers to get better market for mangoes in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: In light of the large-scale mango production across East Singhbhum district, a block-level conference was organized in Jamshedpur Sadar block to facilitate fair market access for local farmers. The event, held under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Aniket Sachan, aimed to create better marketing opportunities and value addition for mango growers.

Addressing the gathering, the DDC highlighted the possibilities in mango production, urging farmers to adopt modern techniques and utilize the available marketing infrastructure. He reiterated the district administration’s commitment, in line with the state government’s vision, to enhance farmers’ income through targeted and sensitive efforts. “Our focus is on ensuring farmers get fair prices for their produce by improving market availability and reducing middlemen dependency,” he said.

Officials from the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, and the Marketing Committee engaged directly with farmers during the event. They provided information on ongoing government schemes, technical support, and market linkage options. The conference also emphasized developing a robust marketing strategy for horticultural products like mangoes, aiming to establish horticulture as a sustainable livelihood source.

Adding a commercial edge to the event, representatives from Intent to Solution, Srisaranya, and All Season Farm Fresh assured farmers of direct procurement of mangoes at fair prices. They committed to eliminating middlemen and enabling farm-to-customer supply chains, ensuring better earnings for growers.

The program saw active participation from a wide range of stakeholders including BDO Sumit Prakash, APOs, public representatives, farmers, mates, village employment servants, block-level officers, JSLPS members, CSO representatives, NGOs, and mango buyers/vendors. The conference concluded with a collective commitment to hold more such initiatives in the future, promoting technical awareness and expanding market opportunities for farmers across the district.
