Jamshedpur, April 22: Factory Inspector Dhirendra Munda has taken legal action against Tata Steel MD cum CEO TV Narendran and the company’s Vice President Shared Services Probal Ghosh. The case, filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Jamshedpur Court, alleges negligence on their part in relation to the death of a worker in an accident. Under Section 7 (A), 2 (C), 2 (D), Rule 55 (A) (1), and Sub Section 32 of the Factory Act 1948, charges have been brought against them.

The incident leading to the case occurred on April 5, when contract laborer Bablu Gope tragically lost his life after hot slag fell on him while working on the 23-meter lance jam cutting platform at Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur plant. Following the incident, Factory Inspector Dhirendra Munda conducted thorough investigations on April 5, April 15, and April 16. It was revealed during the investigation that unsafe work practices and inadequate security arrangements contributed to the accident.

The investigation uncovered that when the incident occurred, workers were engaged in pushing cut jam material with an iron bar. Subsequently, the jam broke loose, causing the hot slag to fall on the platform. Despite attempts to move away, Bablu Gope, positioned under the main platform, was unable to escape and suffered fatal injuries. The narrow working area further exacerbated the situation, preventing Bablu Gope from evading the falling slag.

Statements obtained during the inquiry revealed that Bablu Gope was attempting to loosen the jam material with an iron crowbar when the incident occurred. The unsafe conditions and lack of adequate safety measures in the work area ultimately led to Bablu Gope’s tragic demise. As a result, Tata Steel MD TV Narendran and VP Probal Ghosh are held responsible for negligence in ensuring a safe working environment.
