Jamshedpur, Nov 16: Negligence over the expired fire safety system at MGM Medical College and Hospital, the largest government hospital in Kolhan, is disconcerting and raising serious safety concerns. The hospital’s fire safety systems, including those in critical areas like the pediatric ward, have not been updated, leaving patients and their families in constant fear of potential accidents.
MGM Hospital in Sakchi, Jamshedpur, serves as the primary healthcare facility for Kolhan division. However, its outdated fire safety infrastructure highlights significant managerial lapses. Concerned parents in the pediatric ward have voiced fears about their children’s safety, drawing parallels to the tragic fire incident in Jhansi Medical College, where 10 children lost their lives.
Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Nakul Prasad Chaudhary acknowledged the issue after being informed, stating that repairs will be undertaken following an investigation. This neglect comes despite Jamshedpur being the home district of Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta.
Kolhan division, known for producing four Chief Ministers and numerous state ministers, has seen the steady decline of its premier hospital. The Jhansi tragedy serves as a stark warning, yet the MGM Hospital management appears to be ignoring the potential risks posed by its expired fire systems. Immediate action is required to prevent a repeat of such a disaster.
