Ensure timely payment of wages to MNREGA workers: CM

Ranchi, Jan 29: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today directed to resolve the issue of late payment of wages of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) workers.

He also asked the officers to identify leakages in the system for paying wages on time. Addressing a meeting of the State Rural Employment Guarantee Council, at the Project Building, the Chief Minister warned that no compromise in this work would be tolerated.

He said that people in the rural areas should be made aware of the various schemes of MGNREGA through different promotional activities.

Speaking at the meeting the Chief Secretary R.S. Sharma focused on automation of post offices as 86% beneficiary of MGNREGA workers have their account is in the post office.

He said that this would enable money transaction on real-time basis and also increase accountability.

The Chief Secretary stressed on diversifying the employment opportunities of MGNREGA and emphasized on ensuring convergence of various Departments to maximize the employment opportunities.

He said that a monitoring system should be devised for Jharkhand specific issues.Rural Development Minister Chandrshekhar Dubey was present at the meeting.
