Large haul of arms and ammunition recovered

Reports on police-CPI (Maoists) encounter in Kedlitola forest in Lathehar PS area have come in during which, more than one hundred rounds of firing on both sides took place. The reports stated that Following the encounter, the police recovered live cartridges, bullets and other ammunition including INSAS rifles. Search operations have been launched by the police along the border areas of Latehar-Lohardaga district including Kedlitola and Narayanpur.

Latehar SP Anjani Anjan, while confirming the encounter, said that since the last several days, an intensive raiding operation was being conducted by the police against the Maoists in the forests of Latehar and Lohardaga border areas. He said that on Friday, the Maoists had an encounter with the police in a raid and the encounter lasted half an hour and seeing the police strength, the extremists fled into the forest.
Latehar SP Anjani Anjan stated the location of search and encounter was inhospitable and inaccessible surmounting which the police teams were conducting combing operations. It is to be mentioned that the police of both districts had been campaigning against Maoists in Narayanpur and Bulbul forests and adjoining areas since the last week during which police teams had confronted the extremists twice but seeing themselves outnumbered, the Maoists fled into the jungles on both occasions.
The police during the encounter in Kedlitola forest recovered a huge quantity of bullets, magazines and INSAS rifles and other ammunitions’ during the combing operations immediately after the encounter. According to the SP, a large quantity of gelatin, wire, walkie-talkie, motorcycle keys, and items of daily use had also been recovered in the search operation.
