Jamshedpur: A one day workshop on the empowerment of adolescents was organized in a city hotel here on Friday under the aegis of East Singhbhum district administration and Unicef.
The chief guest of the programme was the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Amit Kumar. He reviewed the ongoing youth empowerment programme being run in six blocks including Bodam, Gurabanda, Chakulia, Patamda and Dhalbhumgarh.
Addressing the workshop, the DC said that the main objective of the youth empowerment programme was to register a decline in child marriages and encourage education of boys and girls of young age.
Empowerment of youths can be done by preventing their marriage in childhood and providing them education through every possible means, the DC observed.
The DC further said that the empowerment programme was related to a basic issue of the society. Youths have been untouched by empowerment programmes so far. Through the efforts made in this programme, positive results shown in target groups and coordination among various departments will pave way for the security and development of children, Kumar said.
Jharkhand head of Unicef Dr Madhulika Jonathan threw light on better ways to make the programme implementation possible and ensure its success. She underlined the importance of team effort and perseverance to make the youth empowerment programme successful. She said that hearing and evaluation of the programme will be done on a regular basis.
At the end of the workshop, the programme was unanimously christened as Sambhav by the participants.
