Elephants destroy crops and houses in Baharagora

Jamshedpur, July 27: A herd of wild elephants wreaked havoc in several villages of Baharagora block late Friday night. They demolished several houses and also destroyed crops kept inside. Several furniture and other household articles were also damaged in the rampage.

Sources said the elephants demolished the wall of a house belonging to one Santosh Nayak. Nayak�s grand children were sleeping in the house when the elephants came into the village.

Nayak demanded compensation from the forest department. A team of forest officials visited the village and took stock of the situation. The officials assured to provide every possible help to the villagers.

After the incident, Baharagora MLA Kunal Sarangi visited the villages and met the victims of rampage. He assured to provide help to the villagers.
