Elephant kills one at Chakulia

Jamshedpur : A person was killed by a wild elephant in the forest adjacent to the village of Rangamatia of Badamara Panchayat under Chakulia forest area of Ghatshila subdivision of East Singhbhum district at around 6 am on Thursday. 40-year-old villager Naveen Gop went to the forest for defecation after waking up on Thursday morning. He did not know that the herd of elephants was found in the forest adjacent to the village.

Before the new forest could reach the toilet, he was suddenly confronted by an elephant. He also tried to escape but by then the elephant had caught him. The tusker wrapped him in the trunk and slammed it to the ground and brutally crushed him to death. On getting information about the incident, the people of the village reached the spot and lifted the dead body and laid it on the cot.

Local MLA Sameer Mahanti and Forest Department officials reached the spot after getting the information.
