Jamshedpur, Jan 9: An elderly watchman was murdered by unknown criminals at a scrap depot near Jugsalai railway crossing under Jugsalai police station area in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to the police the victim, Jumman Ali (72) might have been murdered by a gang of thieves after they tried bid for committing theft.
A resident of Purani Bustee Road in Jugsalai the victim would work as a night watchman at the depot of one Rajesh Singh just along the railway track.

The news of his murder spread when some workers went over to the scrap depot, they found Ali’s body lying in a pool of blood at the scrap depot and lying beside the spot was an axe which the assailant must have used in the murder.
The workers informed depot owner Rajesh Singh who in his turn informed the Jugsalai police.
Deputy superintendent of police (law and order) Alok Ranjan and Jugsalai police station OC, Nitya Nand Mahto visited the spot.
OC, Jugsalai police station confirmed it to be a case of murder, but could not say about the assailants involved in it. ” The incident took place at wee hours so there is no eyewitness of the murder, we are hopeful for reaching to the assailants soon,” said Mahto. He stated that they are scanning the CCTV footage gathered from the premises of railway crossing.
DSP (law and order) said Ali was a professional watchman and had worked as the watchman at several places, including at Bistupur and Sakchi during a long period. He said the victim was watchman at the scrap depot since the past one year.
“We cannot say much about it but yes the probe is on. We are of the opinion that that the watch man might have been murdered in sequel to any enmity with him.� We are, therefore, trying to gather evidence by interrogating the people at the depot and also by scanning the CCTV footage,” Alok Ranjan said.
