Eastern India�s first Climbing Gym opens in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, July 20: Eastern India�s most exciting and one of the biggest bouldering Gym with two walls of 50 feet and 15 feet high was opened at city�s JRD Tata Sports Complex on Monday by Padmashree Mountaineer Premlata Agarwal.

Named TSAF Climbing Gym, Eastern India�s first indoor gym promises to revolutionise the sport in this part of the country. Present on the occasion, Bachendri Pal, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Chief said, Humans are inherently drawn towards nature.

But the present day lifestyle is taking us away from Nature, rather than towards it. Climbing Gym is an initiative through which we want to bring back some stability and try to bridge the gap between indoors and outdoors.

�TSAF climbing Gym is 1st if it�s kind in Eastern India and the climbing Gym concept perhaps the very few in India. It�s a unique opportunity for the steel city residents to go for total fitness�, Pal added.

Hemant Gupta, Manager at TSAF said that sport climbing is a very good physical and mental exercise making the body and mind stronger. It also strengthens one�s cardio vascular function and respiratory system.

Besides this it relieves stress, builds self-confidence and will power. �Climbing Gym has two walls- 50 feet Wall has multiple routes with overhang, for speed climbing and leads climbing. The climbing routes can be changed from time to time. The Bouldering Wall- 15 feet have features like crack, overhang, slab, roof to name some.

Talking about the courses, Hemant said that basic climbing course is of 1 month duration (Rs 750 for Children 7 to 18 years, Rs 1000 for adults), Weekend Pass for 4 days in a month (Rs 500) and Taster Sessions for first timers (Rs 100 per session). We hope to start the course by July 25 for which we have trained instructor (Malay Haldar), added Gupta.
