Ranchi: The upcoming East–West Dedicated Freight Corridor (EWDFC) took a step forward as a high-level delegation from the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) ironed out critical alignment, forest, and land hurdles with the Jharkhand government.

DFCCIL’s Director of Project Planning, Pawan K. Rai, led the delegation alongside Executive Director (Project) Sandesh Srivastava and General Manager Souvik Sengupta. The team held a series of strategic meetings in Ranchi to accelerate the mega-infrastructure project on Monday.

Navigating the Corridor Through Jharkhand’s Coal Belts

To ensure the EWDFC passes through the state’s heavy mining zones safely, the delegation met with Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) CMD Chaudhary Shivraj Singh and Technical Director Anand Mohan.

• The Challenge: Several sections of the proposed freight corridor alignment pass directly through active coal block areas.
• The Solution: DFCCIL and CMPDI agreed to launch an immediate joint study. DFCCIL’s consultants will work side-by-side with CMPDI officials to tweak the alignment, protecting both the railway infrastructure and the state’s vital coal resources.

Fast-Tracking Forest Clearances and Land Acquisition

Building a mega-corridor requires significant environmental nods and land footprint security. The delegation tackled these issues head-on in two separate high-level meetings:

1. Forest Green-Light

The team met Dr. Arta Trana Mishra, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, to strengthen direct coordination between DFCCIL and the Forest Department. This partnership will ensure the project meets all environmental requirements well ahead of construction schedules.

2. Streamlining Land Acquisition

At Project Bhawan, the delegation locked in crucial administrative support from Chandra Shekhar, Jharkhand’s Revenue and Land Registration Secretary. The meeting successfully finalized the upcoming nomination of the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) and an Arbitrator for the EWDFC. The Secretary assured full state support to fast-track these processes.

The EWDFC stands as one of India’s most transformative infrastructure initiatives. By creating a dedicated, high-speed rail network exclusively for cargo, the corridor will completely revamp the country’s supply chain by:
