Early March heat grips Jamshedpur, clear weather forecast on Holi

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, March 2 : Jamshedpur and several parts of Jharkhand are witnessing an unusual spike in temperatures at the very onset of March, with weather conditions resembling peak summer months of May and June.
Places such as Jamshedpur, Seraikela and Latehar have reported intense sunlight and rising mercury levels, leaving residents struggling with the sudden heat.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, Seraikela recorded a maximum temperature of 36°C, while the minimum temperature in both Jamshedpur and Latehar climbed to 18.6°C.
The sharp rise in night temperatures signals a gradual disappearance of the lingering winter chill, with residents fully transitioning to summer wear much earlier than usual.
The weather department has indicated that there is little likelihood of any significant change in conditions in the coming days.
With no active synoptic systems over the Bay of Bengal, rainfall is not expected in the near future.
This means Holi celebrations across the state are likely to take place under clear skies. While the afternoons may remain considerably warm on Holika Dahan and Holi, light and relatively cooler breezes during the morning and evening hours are expected to offer some relief.
Temperature data from major cities further underscores the warming trend.
Jamshedpur recorded 35°C, while Palamu and Bokaro followed closely at 34°C, placing them among the hottest locations in the state. Ranchi registered a maximum temperature of 31°C and a minimum of around 14°C.
Air quality levels, meanwhile, remain in the moderate category across key urban centres.
Ranchi reported the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) at 163, followed by Dhanbad at 149, Jamshedpur at 148, and Bokaro at 140. Though not severe, the pollution levels warrant caution, especially for vulnerable groups.
Regional variations are also visible in night temperatures. Southern districts such as Jamshedpur and West Singhbhum have seen minimum temperatures cross 18°C, while parts of the Santhal Pargana region—including Deoghar, Pakur and Dumka—have recorded a drop of 2–3 degrees during the night.
Weather scientist Abhishek Anand has advised residents to take precautions against dehydration amid the intensifying heat.
Exposure to the harsh afternoon sun may cause headaches or dizziness, he warned, urging people to drink plenty of water, stay hydrated, and consume seasonal fruits to maintain health during the early onset of summer conditions.
