DVC Chairman assures MLA Saryu Rai  prompt action to prevent pollution in Damodar River

 

Ranchi, Oct 16: Chairman of DVC has assured prompt action to prevent pollution in Damodar river.

The assurance came after Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai raised the pollution in Damodar river.

For several days, ash and soot from the Bokaro Thermal Power Station had been falling into the Damodar river. Rai had  expressed deep discontent about this in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, the Jharkhand Chief Secretary, the Additional Chief Secretary of Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department and the Deputy Commissioner of Bokaro.

He wrote that their efforts over the years have resulted in a cleaner Damodar river. However, the Bokaro Thermal Power Station has resumed its old activities. Use the powers available under the Environmental Protection Act to take action against Bokaro Thermal without any delay.

Prevent the immediate discharge of ash and soot into the Damodar River, Rai added in his letter. .

In light of this letter from Rai, the DVC Chairman spoke to him (Rai) over the phone and assured that such a mistake will not be repeated in the future.

Before this, Executive Director of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), Sanjay Kumar Ghosh, and Executive Director of Human Resources, Rakesh Ranjan, along with Senior GM BTPS S.N. Prasad and Senior GM Sanjay Kumar, met Mr. Rai in Ranchi.

Anshul Sharan, the Executive President of Yugantar Bharati, and Praveen Kumar Singh, the convener of the Save Damodar Movement, were also present.

Ghosh provided technical clarity on directly discharging ash and soot into the Damodar River. He explained that production was halted immediately upon learning of the matter. He also reassured Rai that such an offence would not occur.
