Durga Puja: Movement of heavy vehicles to be restricted from 22 to 25 Oct in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Oct 21: In view of heavy rush during Durga Puja, the vehicular traffic arrangement has been planned to be streamlined in the steel city like any other year.

The East Singhbhum district administration has come out with a plan about the traffic arrangement to be ensured for both the heavy commercial vehicles as well as the private vehicle owners during the starting from October 22 till the  immersion of idols on October 26.

According to the plan, movement of heavy vehicles will remain restricted in the city from 11 am to 4 am next day from October 22  till October 25.  On October 26, the day on the day of the immersion, the movement of heavy vehicles will remain restricted from 6 am till 11.30 pm.   From 4 am till 11 am, when there will be no restrictions the heavy vehicles can enter into the city and also leave it without any hurdle.

During the restriction period, the heavy vehicles that come from outside have to be parked in the Transport Nagar in Mango.  Buses have been exempted from the restrictions and it can be operated as usually.

Vehicular traffic, the major concern during the pujas will be under the administrations scanner from this  week as this issue is also an impediment in the way of organizing smooth puja.

Road accidents leading to blockading of streets is very common in the city, so, to avoid such scenes during pujas the traffic police has worked out a revised route chart for heavy vehicles movement that will be made public next week, informed a district traffic official.

“Security and traffic regulation will undoubtedly be the main issue. We will soon finalize the security arrangements and take the opinions of puja committee members,” said an official.

Taking lessons from the past incidents the district administration is not ready to take any chance on the security front on this Durga puja. Effective police arrangement will be in place during the five-day festival with puja organizing committees being instructed to ensure all cooperation to the authorities for an incident free puja.

Along with the police mobility electronic gadgets will be pressed into service on a larger scale to defuse the crisis, if any, at the local level. And, in this connection puja committees have been strictly asked to install close circuit television (CCTV) sets without lapse.
