Dumaria: Punasibad Jahertola villagers pool in labour, repair check dam

Jamshedpur, May 22: Villagers of Punasibad Jahertola in Kumdashol Panchayat under Dumaria Block pooled their labour and repaired the Pechanala Check Dam on Monday. They said that the check dam was not serving its purpose because of cracks that had developed through the years as a result of which whatever water was being collected was trickling out through those cracks. Of late, the check dam had totally dried up. As a result, the villagers were unable to cultivate seasonable vegetables.

The Punasibad Jahertola villagers purchased the necessary material required for the check dam repair job by pooling in money and got to work. The cracks were covered with cement plaster while other defects were rectified. According to them, adequate water would be collected in the dam by next year and the problem of irrigation water scarcity would be resolved. Among the villagers who joined shoulders to repair Pecahanala Check dam were Massang Tudu, Somay Soren, Naran Tudu, Ojen Murmu, Gulia Hembram and Bablu Soren
