Dry Port to become operational in Jamshedpur from Oct 1: Industry secretary

Jamshedpur: State industry secretary K Ravi Kumar has said that necessary efforts would be made to make operational the dry port facility at Burmamines from October 1. ” The stakeholders are ready to export their products from the dry port . All efforts would be made to start the dry port facility from October 1,” he said.

Addressing the Stakeholders Meet at the Adityapur Auto Cluster auditorium at Adityapur here this morning, he said that the government is taking every step.
Industry owners, port trust authorities and other stakeholders today expressed need on the possibilities of havinga dry port ( or inland container depot) facilility in Jamshedpur. Such a move was taken to dispel the cloud which is hovering

over the MSMEs at Adityapur in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district due to the downturn in the automobile sector.

Officials of Container Corporation of India stressed on the need to revive the existing inland container depot at Burmamines.

The officials said that Inland container depot plays a key role in export, import business. The Burmamines-based inland container depot functioined for a brief period after it opened in 2002. Spread in 9.42 acres of land it has the potential to handle products for export. It has a facilitation centre, a transit warehouse and a weigh bridge. Jharkhand state’s industry department is also exploring opportunities to use the facility.
