Jamshedpur: Panic gripped Azadnagar’s Road No. 16 on Friday evening when a Scorpio driver, allegedly in a drunken state, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into pedestrians standing by the roadside.
Three people sustained minor injuries in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the speeding Scorpio (registration number JH 10 BS 4040) was heading from Mango towards Pardih when the driver suddenly lost control.
The vehicle hit two young men and an elderly person before crashing into an electric pole, bringing it to a halt.
Local residents immediately rushed to the injured victims and sent them to a nearby hospital for first aid.
As the crowd gathered around the vehicle, they found the driver completely intoxicated.
Enraged by his reckless behavior, the mob pulled him out of the car and assaulted him.
On receiving information, a Tiger Mobile police team reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The police rescued the driver from the crowd and took him to Azadnagar Police Station.
Azadnagar police station in-charge confirmed that the driver was heavily drunk at the time of the incident.
The vehicle has been seized, and a case is being registered under sections related to rash driving, drunk driving, and causing a road accident.
Local residents complained that vehicles frequently speed through Road No. 16 during evening hours, posing a constant threat to pedestrians.
They have urged the police administration to increase night patrolling in the area to prevent such accidents in the future.
