Jamshedpur : In protest against e-pharmacy, online sale of medicine and a new rule of uploading doctors prescription and the bill of sale of medicines in the e-portal, around 1200 retail pharmacies and drug stores across three districts of Kolhan (East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan), closed down their sutters in support of a nationwide strike.
The strike was called by All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) against central move for online sale of medicines.
President of Jharkhand Chemists and Druggists Association (JCDA), Jamshedpur chapter, Pankaj Chhabra said that the strike was successful. The respose was prompt and all medicine shops remained close against the policy decision of the Union government.
Incidentally, the strike is against the Union health ministry policy of e-pharmacy, online sale of medicine and a new rule of uploading doctors prescription and the bill of sale of medicines in the e-portal.
We have given a message that India with poor literacy level and internet connectivity such directives will add to their problem, said Chhabra. The official said that a day closure would result in a loss of Rs 4-crore to the pharmacy business.
