Dr. V. K. Saraswat Advocates for ‘Deep Tech’ Sovereignty at NIT Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur observed National Technology Day on Monday, hosting a high-level deliberation on India’s path toward technological self-reliance. Eminent scientist Dr. V. K. Saraswat delivered the keynote lecture, urging the academic community to architect “Deep Tech Sovereignty” to realize the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.

Architecting a Techno-Strategic Powerhouse

Delivering a lecture titled “Techno-Strategic Powerhouse India: Architecting Deep Tech Sovereignty for Viksit Bharat @ 2047,” Dr. Saraswat detailed the necessity of strategic autonomy. He defined “Deep Tech” as a transformative force rooted in fundamental scientific discovery and engineering innovation, essential for national security and economic resilience.

Dr. Saraswat highlighted several critical sectors where India must reduce external dependence:

  • Défense & Aerospace: Advanced defence systems, aviation, and space technology.
  • Electronics: Semiconductor manufacturing and quantum computing.
  • Future Tech: Artificial Intelligence and pharmaceutical raw materials.

The Vision for 2047

Dr. Saraswat explained that the Viksit Bharat @ 2047 vision focuses on making India a globally influential nation by its centenary of independence. This vision rests on pillars of sustainable growth, advanced manufacturing, and collaborative governance. He emphasized that Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) is the primary vehicle for achieving this sovereignty.

NIT Jamshedpur’s Role in Innovation

NIT Jamshedpur Director, Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, addressed the gathering on the institution’s responsibility in nurturing research and skilled human resources. He called for a robust “startup-driven innovation ecosystem” and stronger academia-industry collaborations to enhance India’s global competitiveness.

The event, which featured Prabhakar Singh as the Guest of Honor and Prof. Prabha Chand, brought together a diverse group of researchers and industry representatives. Guest of Honor Prabhakar Singh further underscored the importance of entrepreneurship and skill development in building a technologically empowered nation.
