Jamshedpur, Jan 5: Congress leader, Dr Ajoy Kumar has in a letter to the Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren has urged for the abolition of environment clearance certificate for brick kiln owners in the state. Dr. Ajoy Kumar mentioned in his letter to the Chief Minister that there were more than 2,000 brick kilns being operated in the state. The owners of these kilns had to take certificates of environment clearance before being allowed to operate their kilns. “The kiln owners have to run around pillar and post to acquire these certificates,” the Congress leader mentioned in his letter.
Dr Ajoy Kumar suggested in the letter to the Chief Minister that the Jharkhand government should take the lead from the state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Punjab and Haryana who have done away with the requirement of environmental clearance for brick kiln owners and that this should be implemented in the state. Dr Kumar wrote, “Keepoing in mind the interests of workers and the industry, the mandatory environmental clearance should be abolished. It has become difficult for the brick kiln owners to get the environmental clearance certificate and as such they and their workers are being faced with considerable income inconvenience.”.
