Jamshedpur, June 5: Dr Ajoy Kumar, a permanent Congress Working Committee (CWC) invitee and former Jamshedpur MP handed a letter addressed to the SSP East Singhbhum to the City SP urging that a major campaign be initiated against drug addiction in the district.
Dr Ajoy Kumar’s letter focuses on the plight of families of drug addicts. The Congress leader stated in the letter that families of addicts were on the brink of socio-economic ruin. He stated that drug addiction caught on with people in the age group of 20-30 years and once addicted, resorted to taking money from home, selling off household goods, extracting money perforce from family members and relatives due to drug craving and then moving on to stealing snatching and sooner than later turning to bigger crimes. Dr Ajoy Kumar has requested the SSP to direct all police stations in the district to organize campaigns against drug addiction and substance abuse to curb the spiralling addiction rate. Other party leaders who accompanied Dr Ajoy Kumar to hand over the letter addressed to the SSP included Dharmendra Sonkar, Bablu Jha, Raja Singh Rajput, Sultan Ahmad, Shashi Bhushan Prasad, Amit Dubey, Raees Rizvi Chhabban, Safi Azam, Ajitesh Ujjain, Krishna, Anita, Ravi Raj, Sachin and Karan.
