Jamshedpur: Kavya Sandhya, an evening dedicated to poetry, was organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Maharani Laxmi Bai at the district public relations officer (DPRO), East Singhbhum, on Saturday.
The programme started off with the speakers paying floral tributes to a portrait of Maharani Laxmi Bai. The speakers spoke on the life and achievements of Laxmi Bai and threw light on her personality.
They said the young generation should not forget the extraordinary courage shown by the great martyr of India who sacrificed her life in the first war of Independence.
Dr Kalyani Kabir started the evening with her poetry. Other poets who read their poems included Nand Kumar Unman, Shyamal Suman, Shailendra Pandey Shail, Uday Pratap Hayat, Uma Singh, Arun Kumar Arunendu, Varun Prabhat and Veena Pandey Bharati.
At the conclusion of poem recitation, several city women were felicitated for their contribution in woman empowerment. They included boxer Aruna Mishra, Sweta Singh, Poonam Vig, Anamika Majumdar, Chhavi Das and Taruna Mishra.
Also present on the occasion was the member of State Women�s Commission, Jharkhand, Kalyani Saran, who jointly felicitated the women with the DPRO Sanjay Kumar.
