Jamshedpur, May 24: The tranquility of the Sanjay Market area in Sakchi was disrupted when miscreants brazenly stole the donation box from the revered Shri Shri Sankat Mochan Shiv Mandir late Thursday night. The theft, captured on CCTV installed within the temple premises, has left the temple committee and local residents in dismay.
The incident came to light when Vijay Kumar Gupta, responsible for the temple’s upkeep, arrived to open the temple the following morning. Shockingly, he discovered the absence of the donation box, prompting an immediate report to committee chairman Santosh Jaiswal.
Santosh Jaiswal revealed that the CCTV footage clearly captured the thief entering the temple premises by scaling the grill and swiftly fleeing with the fixed donation box. He lamented that while there are two donation boxes within the temple, the thief targeted the fixed one, installed during the Durga Puja festivities in 2023.
Highlighting the significance of the stolen donation box, Santosh Jaiswal mentioned that it typically contains donations collected during the Durga Puja celebrations, estimated to be around four to five thousand rupees. He expressed deep concern over the incident and urged the authorities to take swift action to apprehend the culprit and recover the stolen funds.
