Jamshedpur, Dec. 28 : Domuhani bridge over Subernarekha river linking Sonari to Dobo in Chandilis set to miss its December 31 deadline.
According to information, the 7.7-kms-long approach road from Dobo to Kanderbera in Chandil is likely to take another one month, the underconstruction roundabout on Kadma-Sonari Marine Drive will take another 15 days or so.
The construction of the 252m bridge linking Sonari locality in the steel city to Dobo at Chandil in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district had started in December 2015 with a target of getting completed in 24 months. Though the bridge was completed in time, but work for the construction of 7.7 kms-long approach road could not be completed though addition one year time has elapsed.
Aimed at easing traffic congestion in the steel city, the Domuhanibridge is being set up by Road Construction Department’s (RCD) Jamshedpur division.
The bridge was constructed by the Kolkata-based company, Royal Infratech, where as the approach road connecting Dobo to Kanderbera on NH-33 is being constructed by RCD, Seraikela division.
Executive engineer, RCD, Seraikela, Dinesh Kumar Rajak said the construction of approach road was going on in full swing and it would have been completed by the end of this year.
The new bridge in river Subernarekha linking Sonari with Dobo in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district is being set up at a cost of Rs 41 crores. The foundation stone for the ambitious project was laid by chief minister Raghubar Das on March 13, leading the Kolkata-based construction agency, Royal InfratechPvt Ltd to go ahead with the construction work.
The project assumes significance as the commissioning of the bridge would reduce to load of heavy traffic on city roads and in the process reduce traffic congestion and road mishaps on city arteries and also reduce travel time from Jamshedpur to Ranchi by nearly 40 minutes.
The 252-meter long four-lane bridge (dual-carriageway) with each carriageway of nearly 8.5 meters and pedestrian pathway on each flanks of 1.5 meters will have the Sonari side of the proposed bridge reaching out to SwarnVihar and the Chandil side will connect to a village called Dobo. From Dobo, an approach road (nearly 6 km) will be constructed which would will lead to Kanderbera(near Chandil) and then meet NH-33.
Once the bridge gets operational, the distance between Chandil from Jamshedpur will reduce by about 30 kms as the commuters will not have to go to Chandil — the route for going to Ranchi — via Dimna Chowk. About 10,000 vehicles, including trucks, trailers and car move toward Chandil from Jamshedpur via Dimna Chowk on the NH-33 for the destination like Chandil, Chowka and Ranchi beside other places in Bihar.
