896 students of NIT Jamshedpur receive degrees, B.Tech student Rupal Srivastava bags gold medal

Jamshedpur: A total of 896 students of Adityapur-based NIT Jamshedpur, received degrees from a former alumni and chairman-cum-managing director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited ( PGCIL), Indu Shekhar Jha at the institute�s eighth convocation held on the campus.

The convocation function kicked off with the academic procession followed by presentation of a detailed report by NIT director and chairman, Board of Governors Karunesh Kumar Shukla on the achievements.

A total of 896 students were eligible for getting their degrees, of which 352 were handed out their degrees on stage during the two-hour long function. The bachelor degree ( BTech) comprises 580 students while the PG ( including MTech and MCA) had 298 students while 18 students were eligible for Ph.D degrees. A total of seven medals – three gold and two silver and as many bronze- were presented to the passing out students of 2018.

Rupal Srivastava, a B.Tech student of electronics and communications engineering got the gold medal for being the overall topper across seven streams of engineering. The silver medal in B.Tech went to Krishna Gopal Singh, a student of electrical engineering while Aparajita, a student of electronics and communication engineering bagged bronge in B.Tech.

In his convocation address he said that NIT, Jamshedpur has already carved a niche for itself on the technology map of the country. He urged the young engineers to contribute wholeheartedly to the growth and development of the country. He urged the future technocrats to become a matured citizen and also contribute towards the society.

Notably, NIT (erstwhile Regional Institute of Technology) is one of the eight regional engineering institutes established in the country in the year 1960. The Institute was fully taken over by the Central Government on 1st April, 2003 and renamed National Institute of Technology.
