Disney prepares new wave of layoffs in 20% cost-cutting drive

Walt Disney Co. is considering a fresh round of workforce reductions to cut annual costs by up to 20 percent.
Chief Executive Officer Josh D’Amaro faces industry-wide artificial intelligence adoption, weaker box office sales, intense streaming competition, and declining international park attendance.
The proposed corporate restructuring will disproportionately hit specific business units while sparing other key divisions across the entertainment giant.
Disney plans to redirect saved funds directly into television content, advanced technology, theme park operations, and its expanding cruise fleet.
Company representatives did not respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours regarding the planned operational overhaul.
Insiders have not specified the exact total of planned layoffs from Disney’s global workforce of 231,000 employees.
Disney recently eliminated several hundred human resources and technology positions during a previous round of job cuts in September.
Management previously laid off roughly 1,000 workers in April following earlier corporate downsizing initiatives across multiple divisions.
Former CEO Bob Iger originally launched this massive cost-cutting strategy, eliminating 7,000 roles to save $5.5 billion.
Competitors like Netflix and Skydance are currently executing similar staff reductions to handle shifting media industry pressures.
Meanwhile, Amazon recently terminated 250 employees within its devices division to align staffing with changing product priorities.
Amazon management formally notified affected tech workers through early-morning automated emails and direct text messages.
