Jamshedpur, August 23: The Jamshedpur District Bar Association is set to hold its elections for 2024-2026 on August 24, amidst controversy over missing names in the voter list. The bar building has been sealed in preparation for the elections, where 66 candidates are vying for various positions, including president, vice-president, general secretary, and several executive roles.
Reports have emerged that many advocates’ names are missing from the voter list, leading to heated disputes. Advocate Balram Das, who claimed his name was omitted despite being a member since August 2023, accused Returning Officer Birendra Singh of deliberate exclusion. Das’s complaint to the Registrar was redirected to the Returning Officer, who reportedly refused to accept it. Das has since lodged an email complaint with the State Bar Council.
Additionally, former general secretary Anil Kumar Tiwari has challenged his ineligibility in the High Court, which has scheduled a hearing for September 12. The election officials have implemented new rules for the election, and it remains the advocates’ responsibility to adhere to these regulations.
