Jamshedpur, May 6: In a major boost to rail connectivity, the long-pending demand for a direct train between Tatanagar and Jaipur has finally received approval from the Railway Board. Member of Parliament Bidyut Baran Mahato confirmed the development, stating that the proposal has been officially cleared.
According to the MP, the information was communicated by Vikas Jain, Executive Director (Public Grievances), following directions from Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Mahato noted that he had recently met the minister to push for the service, during which concerns over the route’s length had prompted a review and exploration of alternatives.
Acting on this, authorities have now decided to introduce a train running from Santragachi to Jaipur via Tatanagar, ensuring improved feasibility while retaining direct connectivity for passengers from the region.
Railway officials indicated that the service will originate from Santragachi based on passenger demand and occupancy considerations, with Tatanagar station playing a key role in the route. The train is expected to be operational in the near future, with a detailed timetable to be announced soon.
The move is expected to significantly benefit residents of Jamshedpur and the Kolhan region, particularly those with roots in Rajasthan, who have long awaited direct rail access. Mahato highlighted that he had been consistently advocating for this connection since 2014, including earlier proposals to extend existing services, which could not materialize.
Welcoming the decision, the MP expressed gratitude to the Railway Minister, Railway Board officials, and the South Eastern Railway administration, calling it a major relief and convenience for the people of the region.
