Jamshedpur: State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy Thursday said Dimna Lake area would be developed into a tourist destination. He said Tata Steel would soon provide basic civic amenities in the said area.
Roy today visited Dimna Lake in the morning on the request of several local morning walkers. He inspected the area and also spoke to several morning walkers. He later spoke to Tata Steel vice president (corporate services) over phone and discussed the issue of beautification of the lake area.
If the area around the lake is developed in a planned manner, it may turn into a tourist hotspot. The land available near the lake may be developed on the lines of Jubilee Park. I have told the Tata Steel VP that Jharkhand governments tourism department may also partner with the company on the beautification and development project, Roy said.
Roy said Dimna Lake may be developed like Pokhra in Nepal. Boating should be started here. This will not only attract tourists but would also help the state get revenue, he said.
According to Roy over 1000 people visit Dimna Lake from Mango and other areas every morning for exercise, walk and Yoga. A large number of tourists also come here from West Bengal and other places every year. But due to lack of facilities, the area has remained underdeveloped, he said.
