Ranchi, Feb 27: Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been served a notice by the Jharkhand State Housing Board over the alleged commercial use of a residential plot allotted in his name.
According to official sources, the Board has accused Dhoni of violating allotment norms by permitting commercial activities on a residential property located in the Harmu area of Ranchi.
The plot, identified as H-10A, was reportedly allotted strictly for residential purposes. However, authorities claim that a pathology laboratory is currently being operated from the premises, which constitutes a breach of the Board’s regulations.
In the notice issued to Dhoni, the Housing Board has sought an explanation regarding the alleged violation. It has further stated that failure to present a satisfactory response could lead to a recommendation for cancellation of the land allotment.
Officials indicated that the Board has recently initiated action in several similar cases where residential plots have allegedly been used for commercial purposes, contrary to the terms of allotment.
The development comes shortly after Hemant Soren publicly praised Dhoni for his contribution to Indian and international cricket.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Baldev Sahu Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament in Lohardaga, the Chief Minister lauded Dhoni as a proud son of Jharkhand who brought global recognition to the state through his achievements on the cricket field.
The matter is now expected to proceed based on Dhoni’s response to the notice issued by the Jharkhand State Housing Board.
