‘Dhare Tusu’ Festival Paints Jamshedpur Streets in Folk Colours, Thousands Join Grand Procession

Jamshedpur: The streets of Jamshedpur came alive with the vibrant hues of Jharkhand’s folk traditions on Sunday as the ‘Dhare Tusu’ street festival, organized by Vishad Kala Sanskriti Manch, drew thousands of devotees and cultural enthusiasts.

The grand Tusu procession began from Dimna and concluded at Aam Bagan ground in Sakchi, turning the city into a moving canvas of devotion, music, and traditional art. Women devotees played a central role, carrying beautifully decorated Tusu idols (Chaudal) and singing age-old Tusu songs to the rhythmic beats of Mandar and Dhol drums.

Residents along Dimna and Mango roads gathered in large numbers to witness the spectacle, many capturing the colourful scenes on their mobile phones. The massive turnout led to traffic congestion, with authorities temporarily closing stretches of Dimna Road and diverting vehicles for public safety.

At Sakchi’s Aam Bagan, the venue transformed into a cultural hub resembling a “mini-Jharkhand,” featuring folk performances, competitions among Tusu idols from different regions, and programs by local artists. Organizers said the festival aimed not only to celebrate Jharkhand’s cultural heritage but also to connect the younger generation with traditional folk art and customs.
