Jamshedpur, Oct 23: The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DG-GSTI) has intensified its probe into a massive fake GST invoice racket, placing 14–15 transporters and iron traders from Jamshedpur, Adityapur, and Gamharia under its radar.

The investigation follows the arrest of iron trader Prateek Kalbalia from Chas, whose premises yielded critical documents pointing to a fake GST invoice scam exceeding  Rs 250 crore.

Officials recovered cash exceeding  Rs 50 lakh, multiple computers and laptops, mobile phones, pen drives, fake invoice books, accounting records, and property-related documents during simultaneous raids across seven locations.

DG-GSTI’s Additional Director, Sarthak Saxena, stated that the department is now probing the flow of illegally obtained funds through hawala channels and bank accounts opened under fictitious names.

Key documents revealing such transactions have already been seized.

The intensified investigation also draws on records recovered following the earlier arrests of Avnish Jaiswal from Dhanbad’s Hirapur and Md Fazal Khan from Matkuriya in connection with a  Rs 200 crore fake invoice case on July 23.

Notices have been issued to several individuals to present their accounts, and authorities are considering taking Kalbalia on remand if required.a

DG-GSTI continues to crack down on fraudulent practices in the region’s iron and transport sectors, signaling stricter enforcement ahead.
