Jamshedpur : Hundreds of devotees from across the city on Monday celebrated Buddha Purnima, the day Lord Buddha was born, at Bodh Gaya in Bihar where he attained enlightenment.
Bodhi temple management committee organised a function to celebrate the 2,555th Buddha Jayanti at Sakchi.

Buddha Purnima is the most sacred day for Buddhists as they take pilgrimage trips to the places associated
with the founder of their faith – Lord Buddha. Buddha Purnima falls on a full moon day.
This makes the day very auspicious ‘After the prayers, we will give floral tributes to Lord Buddha, which is a part of our tradition,’ a member of the association said.
Buddha Purnima, which falls on a full moon night in the month of Vaisakha, either in April or May, commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha.
It is celebrated with traditional spiritual fervour amid religious ceremonies. A public meeting was also organised on the occasion in which many distinguished guests and Buddhist monks took part.
