Train Manager Devendra Sharma Dies on Duty

Jamshedpur/Chakradharpur: Train Manager Devendra Sharma (57), known for his dedication in the Railways, died tragically while on duty.

According to reports, Sharma departed for Howrah on the evening of March 16, 2026, at around 5 pm with train number 12869. During the journey, his health kept deteriorating, yet he continued to perform his duties and operated the train for nearly 11 hours.

Despite his worsening condition, Sharma ensured that the train reached Howrah safely. After stepping down on the platform, his condition became critical, and he collapsed.

Eyewitnesses said he did not receive timely medical assistance and reportedly waited for nearly three hours before help arrived. He later died.

Devendra Sharma lived in Parsudih, Jamshedpur. He began his railway career in 2004 as a traffic worker and later earned a promotion to Train Manager (Guard). He served in Chakradharpur, Adityapur, and Tatanagar and was recently posted in Chakradharpur.

The incident has raised serious concerns about railway working conditions and employee safety. Colleagues and local residents have demanded a high-level inquiry and better arrangements to ensure the health and safety of staff on duty. Sharma’s death has left his family and colleagues in deep mourning.
